Coconut, olive, almond, grapeseed, and castor oils are super oils that protect from the sun’s harmful rays of UVA&B, retain glow, tighten skin, and treat acne. These super oils create a creamy lather containing vitamins A, B, E, and K. Kaolin clay is the oldest clay used in many personal hygiene products. It is gentle and stimulates circulation to areas of the application without over-drying.
Food-grade USP sodium hydroxide is a strong alkaline compound used to saponify soap. It is also used in food processing, such as curing olives and toothpaste and giving shine to German Bagels. This same lye turns oils into soap. When an acid and a base (oil/fat) combine, they neutralize each other and make a salt called “Soap.”
The blue color in this soap comes from an herb native to India called Indigo-fera tinctoria, an ancient herb used since 3000 BC. Indigo offers anti-inflammatory benefits and helps reduce skin redness through its skin-lightening effects and alleviating irritations, eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis (rosacea). Indigo blue was also associated with royalty, and Levi Strauss's famous work jeans were dyed with Indigofera tinctoria.
